Reddit Launch Templates
Reddit is not a place for copy-paste promotion. Use these community-safe templates to share your product genuinely and spark discussion.
WARNING: Reddit Hates Ads
Reddit is not a distribution channel; it is a community. If you drop a link with marketing copy ("Check out my revolutionary new app!"), you will be downvoted, reported, and banned. You must provide value first.
When Reddit is a Good Fit
- You are solving a highly specific problem that a subreddit frequently complains about.
- You are willing to share transparent learnings (e.g., in r/entrepreneur or r/SaaS).
- You genuinely want harsh, constructive feedback.
When Reddit is a Bad Fit
- You just want quick traffic and SEO backlinks.
- You are not willing to reply to comments.
- Your product is a generic clone with no unique angle.
Safer Reddit Post Structure
- The Hook: Address a known pain point in the community.
- The Story: Explain why you personally experienced this pain.
- The Build: Briefly explain how you solved it (the mechanics, not marketing).
- The Value Add: Share a learning or insight they can use even without your product.
- The Soft CTA: Ask a question or offer the link ONLY if they want it.
Template 1: Founder Story (No Direct Link)
Best for strict communities. You only share the link in the comments if someone explicitly asks.
Title: I spent the last [Timeframe] trying to solve [Specific Problem]. Here is what I learned.
Hey r/[Subreddit],
Like many of you, I've always struggled with [Specific Pain Point]. Every time I tried to [Task], I ran into [Frustration].
I couldn't find a tool that did [Specific Function] without [Downside], so I spent the last few months building one myself.
Here are the 3 biggest challenges I ran into while trying to solve this:
- [Learning 1]
- [Learning 2]
- [Learning 3]
I just got the MVP working. It basically does [Core mechanism in 1 sentence].
I'm not going to spam the link here, but if anyone else struggles with [Problem] and wants to try the beta to give me some harsh feedback, let me know in the comments and I'll send it over.
Otherwise, I'm happy to answer any questions about [Topic related to Learning 1]!
Template 2: Direct Feedback Request
Best for builder communities (e.g., r/SaaS, r/SideProject, r/roastmystartup).
Title: I built a tool to help [Audience] do [Action]. Please tear apart my landing page.
Hey everyone,
I'm a [Solo Developer/Founder] and I just launched the first version of [Product Name].
It's a tool that helps [Target Audience] achieve [Specific Outcome] by [How it works].
I'm struggling with the messaging on my landing page. I feel like it might be too [vague/technical/boring].
Link: [Your Link]
Could you take a brutally honest look and tell me:
- Do you immediately understand what the product does?
- Is the pricing clear?
- What is the weakest part of the page?
Thick skin here, so don't hold back. Thanks!
Template 3: Soft CTA in a Helpful Comment
Best for replying to someone else's thread where they are complaining about the exact problem you solve.
"I ran into this exact same issue when doing [Task]. The problem usually stems from [Root Cause].
The way I typically work around it is to [Free advice/method].
Actually, I got so frustrated with this that I built a small tool to automate it. It handles [Feature] automatically. Happy to share the link if it'd be helpful, but otherwise, definitely try the [Free advice method] first!"
Risk Review Checklist
- Did I use words like "revolutionary", "game-changer", or "seamless"? (Remove them)
- Does the title read like an ad? (Rewrite as a statement of experience or a question)
- Am I providing value even if they don't click the link?
- Did I read the subreddit rules regarding self-promotion?
How LaunchSprint Helps
Writing community-safe copy is tedious. LaunchSprint takes your product profile and automatically generates "No-Link", "Soft CTA", and "Founder Story" variants specifically tuned for Reddit's culture. Furthermore, the Risk Checker will scan your draft and flag overly promotional adjectives before you post.
